Northeast of Little Tokyo, Japanese settled in the town of Glendale with 22 markets, 12 florists, 4 nurseries, 4 produce businesses, and 4 Chop Suey restaurants. By 1941, the small community had established 2 churches and 2 Japanese schools. Yet the Japanese presence has faded away without a trace of the former independent shops.
